Yannis Caloghirou
Scientific and Project Coordinator of NETonKIE research project
Yannis D. Caloghirou is Emeritus Professor of Economics of Technology and Industrial Strategy and co-founder and former Director of the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics at the National Technical University of Athens. He was the founder and Head of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit at NTUA. He is a member of the Scientific Board of the incubator Invent at NTUA. He has a joint background in engineering (Chemical Engineering, NTUA) and economics (University of Athens), and he holds an M.Sc. in Plant Design (University of Strathclyde) and a Ph.D. in Industrial Economics (NTUA).
He has been a visiting scholar at SPRU (University of Sussex), the Center for International Science and Technology Policy (GWU), and a visiting Professor at the Department of Science and Technology Policy (University of Campinas, Brazil). He acted as the scientific coordinator of many EU-funded and national research projects in the broader field of socio-economic research related to technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, industry, ICT, and the knowledge economy. He has served in top policy-making positions in Greece among them as Secretary General for Industry and as Secretary for the Information Society. He has sat in a number of EU high-level expert and policy groups, and he was co-Rapporteur of the EU High-Level Policy group on the Socio-Economic Benefits of the European Research Area. He was also a member of the Governing Board of the European Network of Excellence DIME (Dynamics of Institutions and Markets in Europe).
He was the Chairman of the 15th International Globelics Conference on Innovation and Development in Athens. Moreover, he has extensive work experience in industry and in policy advisory, design, and evaluation. He has written extensively on topics related to his research in top scholarly journals and edited books and the popular and business press. In particular, he is co-editor of three books on European Collaboration in Research and Development (ELGAR, 2004), Knowledge Flows in European Industry (Routledge, 2006), and Dynamics of Knowledge Intensive Entrepreneurship (Routledge, 2016).
Aggelos Tsakanikas
Aggelos Tsakanikas is a Professor in the field of Economic Evaluation of Systems of Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the School of Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Director of the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics, (LIEE-NTUA), and Head of NTUA’s Technology Transfer Office. He is also the head of the Entrepreneurship Observatory, at the Greek Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (FEIR/IOBE).
He has participated in various European projects in the field of innovation studies, socioeconomics research and information society. He has been working at FEIR/IOBE since May 2004, and has served as its Research Director (April 2012 to Jan 2014). He has been involved with numerous sectoral studies, studies on entrepreneurship and competitiveness and related policies.
His main research interests and most of his published work lie in the fields of technology strategy, business strategy, innovation economics, entrepreneurship, and related public policies. He has served as Vice chairman of the Hellenic Industrial Property Organization. He is also a member of the Greek team that participates in the World Competitiveness Yearbook published by IMD.
Aimilia Protogerou
Aimilia Protogerou is an Assistant Professor of Business Strategy and Innovation Management at the Chemical Engineering School of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Her research interests revolve around strategic management of technology and innovation, technology policy and cooperative research and development, innovation networks, and knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship.
She has contributed as a researcher or principal researcher to a large number of national and EU-funded research projects focusing primarily on innovation and research networks, innovative and dynamic capabilities of firms, industrial dynamics, the creation of new industrial sectors, global value chains, and entrepreneurship. She has published her work in many international journals and edited volumes.
Panagiotis Panagiotopoulos
Panagiotis Panagiotopoulos is a post-doctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and serves as a Lecturer in postgraduate programs at NTUA. He holds a Ph.D. in economic and strategic analysis of information and communication technologies (NTUA). He holds a diploma in Chemical Engineering from NTUA and an MSc in Business Mathematics (National Kapodistrian University of Athens & Athens University of Economics and Business).
He has participated in many European and national projects in the fields of organizational resources and capabilities of firms and public organisations, business innovation, intangible assets, public procurement for innovation, knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship, national innovation systems, digital transformation and eGovernment. Regarding the projects’ empirical work, his responsibilities include the design and implementation of surveys and case studies, and the statistical and econometric analysis of databases. He was a visiting researcher in June-July 2019 at the Department of Science and Technology Policy at the University of Campinas, Brazil, and in January-February 2024 at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University Malaya, Malaysia.
Evangelos Siokas
Petros Dimas
Petros Dimas is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics (LIEE) at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Financial and Management Engineering at the University of the Aegean and also serves as a Lecturer in postgraduate programs at NTUA. He holds a PhD in Industrial Policy and Competitiveness from NTUA and has a mixed background in engineering and economics, holding a diploma in Chemical Engineering (MEng equivalent) from NTUA and an MSc (with honors) in Applied Economics and Finance from Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB).
His main research interests and published work lie in the fields of industrial economics and policy and economics of innovation and technological change, with special focus on research related to global value chains and intangible assets. He has participated in various national and EU-funded research projects, with significant experience in the design and implementation of large-scale field surveys and the application of advanced statistical methods and tools. He has also participated in multiple private-funded projects and techno-economic studies with project-based contracts (external engineering consultancy services), gaining significant expertise in the financial evaluation of industrial processes and products.
