Objectives.

– The pilot testing of the semi-structured questionnaire (developed in WP1) on which the case studies will be based so as to formulate an improved final version.

– The implementation of 25 case studies in selected Greek participating entities.

– An analytical empirical report based on the case studies results.

Description of Work

This work package includes the design and implementation of case studies – through face-to-face interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire – in 25 selected Greek organisations of all types, i.e. universities, research centers, young and established firms as well as public agencies/technology users, that have participated in RJVs under the FPs and Horizon 2020 The purpose of the case studies is the in-depth investigation of the determinants and obstacles of participating in RJVs, the challenges the organisations face during their involvement and the benefits from R&D cooperation. Special attention will be given to issues that cannot be easily captured through other empirical methods (Survey, Desk Research, Social Network Analysis) such as the mechanisms that facilitate innovation production (focusing on the exploration and exploitation of knowledge) and particularly the specific knowledge flows between the various participating entities, the collaboration patterns developed and the essential role of each organisation in the EU-funded research networks, as well as the effect of specific organisational and regional/national strategies and policies on the participation intensity and the outcomes that are achieved. Finally, a first “policy brief” with the policy implications that arise from the theoretical and empirical part of the project will be drafted.
